ALLENDALE, Mich. – Jakobi Turner supplied Roosevelt’s only points at the 2025 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted Wednesday through Friday at Grand Valley State in Allendale, Michigan.

The freshman jumper started his championships with a 10th place finish Thursday in the long jump with a leap of 6.28 meters. In Friday’s triple jump, he proved why it is his signature event with a personal best mark to capture fifth place. His jump of 13.48 meters was 24 centimeters better than his previous season high and within one meter of the conference champion.

His four points from the triple jump put Roosevelt in ninth place as a team in the men’s competition. The Lakers had several athletes finish just outside the top-eight despite putting up personal best marks in their events.

Tyrin Stewart shattered his school record in the 100 meters with a 10.84-second sprint in the preliminaries. It was more than 0.1 seconds faster than his previous best mark and he had to settle for 12th place. The freshman also finished 12th in the 200 meters with a season-best time of 22.28 seconds.

Javaris Jones ran his best 400-meters race in nearly a month to take 12th in that event, and he also set a personal best to finish 14th in the 200 meters.
Jonathan Sears took 11th place in the hammer throw with a personal record of 39.65 meters. He also set his personal record in the discus with a toss of 37.82 meters. Elsewhere in the throwing events, Cameron Vahldick and Kieran Cassidy took 11th and 12th respectively in the javelin throw.

Roosevelt’s women’s team was shut out of the points despite most of its runners setting personal records. Angela Louis ended her collegiate career with her best times in the 100 and 200 meters. The senior took 20th in the 100 with a time of 12.49 seconds and finished 17th in the 26.32 seconds.

Khaniya Higginbotham ran her best time in the 200 meters as well and placed 19th with a time of 26.49 seconds. The sophomore also crept closer to a one-minute 400-meter race with a personal-best time of 1:00.18.

In the field events, Millicent Ghapson had the Lakers’ best result with an 11th-place finish in the high jump. Lisset Munoz finished 15th in the javelin while Alexia Lohman placed 14th in the triple jump and 17th in the long jump.
