The 2025 NFL Draft is rapidly approaching, and with that different teams are trying to figure out their plan for April. That includes several quarterback-needy teams who are looking into players like Shedeur Sanders out of Colorado.
One team that could be an interesting fit for Shedeur Sanders is the Las Vegas Raiders. In fact, ESPN NFL insider Bill Barnwell shared on Get Up that it would make sense for the Raiders to even trade up for Sanders in the draft.
“I’m gonna say the Las Vegas Raiders should trade up for Shedeur Sanders,” Barnwell said. “I understand this is not a great quarterback class, but I think we’re underrating Sanders a bit. He’s accurate, he’s poised, he’s smart, and we already know Tom Brady and Deion Sanders are in a love fest. He’d be happy to be there. I think Shedeur Sanders makes total sense.”
The Raiders are set to pick sixth in the NFL Draft and quarterback is clearly their biggest need as a team. However, neither Sanders, nor Cam Ward, are expected to fall to them at that slot, with recent NFL mock drafts predicting both quarterbacks go in the top three picks. Sanders has been projected as high as first overall. So, with multiple teams needing a quarterback and there being a relatively limited number of guys available, trading up might be the option if the Raiders want a quarterback.
Dan Graziano was on the panel for Get Up. While he doesn’t hate the idea of trading up for Sanders, he also thinks that would require a quarterback to bridge the team before he’d be ready to start.
“Yeah, it makes sense if they think he’s the long-term answer,” Graziano said. “I just wonder if these quarterbacks that we’re hearing about at the top of the draft, if teams need more time to develop, like what kind of bridge quarterback situation are the Raiders willing to do and what does that look like? I just don’t know enough about the quarterbacks yet and how good they’re going to be right away.”
Sanders finished the 2024 season completing 74 percent of his passes for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns to 10 interceptions. He did that while playing for his father, Deion Sanders, at Colorado. That has helped develop connections in the NFL, including with Tom Brady and the Raiders’ ownership. Now, it’s a matter of how much the team likes Sanders and would be willing to give up to go and get him.
