EAU CLAIRE — The Rochester Honkers struggled at the plate and fell 2-0 to the Eau Claire Express on Thursday night on the road at Carson Park, recording their fourth shutout loss of the season.
The Express scored once in the second and fourth innings, and it was enough to hold off the Honkers and split the series after Rochester won 7-6 Wednesday.

The Honkers extend the NWL record for most losses in a season with a record of 17-53 overall and 9-25 in the second half. Eau Claire is 19-17 in the second half and 32-37 overall.
Holy Cross redshirt sophomore Van Coughlin was 2-for-3 at the plate in the loss. Mars Hill University sophomore Christian Galindo and Illinois-Springfield junior Richie Snider split time on the mound for the Honkers, combining for seven strikeouts. Galindo allowed four hits and two runs — one earned — and walked two. Snider allowed two hits in the final two innings.
Cohen Gomez, a Stanford University freshman, threw a complete game for the Express. He was impressive on the mound, allowing five hits and no runs while striking out 11 batters and walking one. Texas A&M University freshman Sam Erickson scored both of Eau Claire’s runs, with an unearned in the second and a homer in the fourth.
The Honkers head to La Crosse for their final series of the season. They will play the Loggers (37-32, 15-21) at 6:35 p.m. Friday at Copeland Park.
