Weston Nielsen has been a busy traveler the last few months. The four-star Bastrop (Texas) Class of 2027 quarterback made in-state stops to Texas Tech, TCU and Texas A&M recently. During the next few weeks, he’ll visit Arizona State and SMU.
“We’ve been on the road a lot, and it’s a blessing to be able to step into these facilities and get a peek into these elite programs,” Nielsen said. “I have really enjoyed learning how each program is so different in how they approach training and preparing their players to reach their highest potential.”
But Nielsen got a long way from home earlier this week as he and his family traveled north to Champaign (Ill.) to check out Illinois.
Since January, the Illini have been in “persistent” contact with Bastrop, whom 247Sports currently ranks the No. 4 quarterback in the Class of 2027, after offering him at his high school. So Nielsen wanted to check out one of his most aggressive suitors in person.
