Dan Kennedy shared a message of gratitude with Hampton Roads before signing off from the 13News Now anchor desk one last time.
NORFOLK, Va. — At 13News Now, we’re more than a team: We’re a family.
On Friday, we say goodbye to our family member, Dan Kennedy. After more than six years of covering the stories that matter most to Hampton Roads, Dan is moving on to a new chapter at our sister station WXIA 11Alive in Atlanta. It’s a bittersweet goodbye, as he’s moving closer to his family in Tennessee.
From early mornings on Daybreak to guiding us through some of the region’s defining moments, Dan earned the trust of Hampton Roads.
He brought clarity to the stories that gripped and united our community and pressed our leaders for solutions, bringing together the Seven Cities’ police chiefs for their first-ever televised forum. Dan worked to shine a spotlight on the successes in our schools and the challenges faced by our coastal communities.
But his impact extends far beyond the stories he tells.
“Moving here seven years ago, I never could have imagined the hold Hampton Roads would have on my heart,” Dan said at the end of Friday’s 13News Now at 6 broadcast. “Kelly and I got engaged here. Our sons were born here. And the people here are top-notch.”
As he begins a new chapter, Dan’s commitment to this community will remain rooted in Hampton Roads.
“To all who watch, we built a special bond,” Dan said. “You trusted me, and I feel deeply loyal to you. I am so grateful you and Hampton Roads will always be a part of my life. So thank you.”
