Former UFC light heavyweight and current heavyweight champion Jon Jones might be considered the GOAT, but that’s not to say that ‘Bones’ is unbreakable.

One of Jon Jones’ most underrated attributes is undoubtedly his granite chin, having never been knocked down and barely even wobbled throughout his illustrious UFC career.

However, according to former champion Carlos Condit, there was one fighter who not only rocked Jones in sparring but dropped the consensus GOAT with a spinning back kick.

Carlos Condit recalls Jon Jones being ‘dropped’ by unknown UFC fighter

Carlos ‘The Natural Born Killer’ Condit joined the UFC roster in 2009 and competed all the way up to 2021, claiming the interim welterweight title along the way against Nick Diaz.

Throughout his career, Condit was able to train alongside a whole host of UFC superstars and active champions, including both Jon Jones and iconic rival Rashad Evans.

“Oh yeah, we trained together; I trained a little bit with Rashad, [but] I did train with Jon quite a bit,” explained Condit on the Jaxxon Podcast.

“Jon’s a great training partner, yeah [I sparred him], when Jon was a lot skinnier before he started to put more weight on and find his power, I sparred Jon a lot… But then once he started sitting down on his punches and finding his power, I stopped doing all that.”

Given his own intense rivalry with Jones, Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson was curious as to whether Condit had ever seen someone getting the better of ‘Bones’ in training – and what he said next shocked the former light heavyweight champion.

“I have, yeah. Well, the same guy f—– me up the round right before too… One morning, I think it was like a Tuesday morning like 9 AM sparring, you know we’re in there tipping and tapping and we get this dude – I don’t know if you guys ever heard of Adlan Amagov.

“Chechen dude, he fought in the UFC a couple of times and the last time man, they carried his opponent out on his stretcher, but yeah – he finished a number of guys [in training].”

According to Condit, Adlan Amagov not only ‘f—– him up’ in training, but would then drop Jon Jones with a spinning back kick later that same session.

“He was a spinning back kick guy and he f—– me up and then I think a round or two later, he hit Jon with that spinning back kick and he dropped him.”

“Nah [he didn’t get kicked out], he stayed around,” laughed Condit.

Amagov fought twice under the UFC banner; a unanimous decision win over Chris Spang, and a first-round knockout of TJ Waldburger in 2013 – he then left the promotion, with his last MMA fight taking place in 2016.

Jones vs Aspinall speculation continues after Dana White’s recent admission

Sparring in the training room is obviously very different from fighting under the bright lights of the UFC octagon, although British heavyweight juggernaut Tom Aspinall will be keen to emulate Amagov – if he ever gets the chance.

“There’s no situation, it’s the biggest fight that we can make,” UFC CEO Dana White said on the super-fight via The Mac Life.

“I know the fans like to mess with Jon or whatever, Jon Jones isn’t afraid of anybody, and Jon Jones will fight anybody. It’s just a matter of getting the fight done now, that’s our job.”

Despite being dead set that the unification bout will take place, White acknowledged that stripping Jones of the heavyweight title is a possibility if the Aspinall fight isn’t signed soon.

“100 percent – if we don’t get the fight done, we move on and we make another fight. But the night before, I was up in my room with my people until like 6 in the morning, we’re working on lots of stuff right now. There’s lots of really good s— going on right now.”

In a subsequent interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored, White would tease that victory over Jones would be ‘life-changing’ for the popular British heavyweight.

“The problem in this business is you have guys who say a lot of things publicly but behind the curtains, don’t mean it, you know, don’t really want these fights. Tom Aspinall is not that guy. Tom Aspinall wants to fight all the best in the world, and I love that.”

“With the Jon Jones fight, a fight like that for a young, talented heavyweight, if he can win, if he can beat Jon Jones, it’s life-changing.”
