The AFC and NFC championship games did not disappoint. After incredible weeks of NFL playoff action in the wild card and the divisional rounds, the conference championship games lived up to the hype.
Now, the stage is set for the Super Bowl.
Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs are headed back to the Super Bowl for the fifth time in six years after they defeated the Buffalo Bills 32-29. Conversely, the Philadelphia Eagles will represent the NFC after soaring past the Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Rams and Washington Commanders.
Both franchises have spent most of the season as NFL juggernauts. The Chiefs finished the season as the No. 1 seed in the AFC with a 15-2 record. Meanwhile, the Eagles were the No. 2 seed in the NFC with a record of 14-3.
These teams have been on a collision course since September, setting up a rematch of the Super Bowl from two years ago.

Chiefs vs. Eagles Super Bowl predictions
Some NFL fans are criticizing this matchup because they are sick of watching the Chiefs’ dynastic reign. Kansas City has been excellent and persistent since trading away Alex Smith seven years ago and handing over the keys to Mahomes. That can’t be taken away.
That said, underdogs have won three of the past four Super Bowls, and the Eagles have found themselves in that position. Betting against Mahomes, however, has proven to be a bad decision. He is 3-1 in four Super Bowl appearances.
This is the fifth rematch between head coaches in Super Bowl history. The winning head coach won the second head-to-head in the big game in each previous matchup. Andy Reid is looking to continue that trend against Nick Sirianni on Sunday.
In the prior rematches of quarterbacks in Super Bowl history, the winning quarterback walked away victorious in each rematch. Eli Manning’s Giants beat Tom Brady’s Patriots, Troy Aikman’s Cowboys took down Jim Kelly’s Bills and Terry Bradshaw’s Steelers defeated Roger Staubach’s Cowboys in those instances. Now, Mahomes is looking to continue that trend against Jalen Hurts.
The funny thing about trends and history is that they are made to be broken. Dynasties have always seemed to crumble to ash.
While the Chiefs deserve their flowers, their offense struggled to score touchdowns this season, finishing 22nd in red zone efficiency.
I expect the birds to sing their song and soar in the Caesars Superdome on Feb. 9.
The Eagles finished the regular season with the fewest yards allowed per game (278.4) and were the second-best scoring defense (17.8 points per game). Since Week 10, they have been the No. 1 defense in terms of EPA per play. Signing Saquon Barkley will go down as one of the best free agency moves of all time. The former No. 2 overall pick has been the best player in the NFL and showed it all postseason.
The Eagles’ offensive line will continue to bulldoze the way for Barkley and Hurts. Philadelphia just trampled Washington for 55 points and seven rushing scores, the most scored by any team in a conference championship game since the Super Bowl merger in 1970. These Birds are on a redemption tour from their Super 57 loss.
Philadelphia ran inside zone at the fourth-highest rate, and the Chiefs allowed 4.3 yards per play (21st in the NFL) against this scheme. Mahomes was sacked a career-high 36 times this season, which could be devastating against the Eagles’ pass rush that ranked second in PFF’s team pass rush grade. Jalen Carter could be a game-wrecker.
Philly will control the tempo long enough to thwart off the Mahomes magic.
The Chiefs’ attempt for the first three-peat will ultimately fail. On the second Sunday in February, the Big Easy will deliver history: Jalen Hurts will become the first quarterback to win in a Super Bowl rematch. The Eagles are smiling through the confetti this time, as they are the victors by a three-point margin.
